Chelsea are rumored to be in a prime position to launch a surprise offer for Brazilian star Neymar after PSG reportedly showed him the exit door recently.
At Parc des Princes, the Brazilian international had a challenging season. Following his team’s Champions League elimination against eventual champion Real Madrid, PSG fans booed him.
The French champions will have a hectic summer since manager Mauricio Pochettino is about to step down and because they have a new sporting director in Luis Campos.
Neymar’s departure is also reportedly on Campos’ to-do list as he looks to change the course of the team.
Neymar reportedly wants to remain in Paris and support PSG in their Champions League victory.
In 2017, Neymar moved from Barcelona to Paris in a transaction of a record-breaking £198 million. Neymar was brought in to be the club’s top player but fell short of expectations. Although they came so near in 2020, losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich of Germany in the final, he was unable to guide the squad to the elusive Champions League finals.
Neymar’s attitude and bad play are said to be a course of concern for PSG’s executives, and they are reportedly looking to let him go. With Kylian Mbappe now serving as the club’s main man following the signing of a sizable new contract last month, the Brazilian’s relationship with Mbappe has also recently worsened.
Neymar left Barcelona for PSG to escape Lionel Messi’s shadow, but he now finds himself playing behind both Messi and Mbappe in Paris.
Neymar Jr’s most likely alternative is a move to the Premier League because other clubs in Europe are having financial issues. According to Sky Bet, Chelsea is presently the 7/1 favorite to sign the Brazilian.
Given that Romelu Lukaku is on loan at Inter Milan and teenage attacker Armando Broja is also preparing to depart the club, this is hardly shocking. Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are the only available forwards for manager Thomas Tuchel right now.
Spanish powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid, both available at 14/1, are Chelsea’s main competitors. Newcastle is reportedly also interested, but Neymar, according to reports, has no desire to relocate there.
Currently viewed as outsiders are other Premier League teams like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
It’s unclear where Neymar will play when the new season begins and what his future holds for him.
