Chelsea thrashed Manchester United 4-3
Cole Palmer scored an incredible hat-trick to lead Chelsea to a dramatic 4-3 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, April 4.
Despite United being up 3-2 in the final minutes of stoppage time, Palmer scored a penalty and then a stunning goal to secure the win.
The former Manchester City player, who supported United as a child, found space in the box and his shot deflected off Scott McTominay before finding the back of the net.
Chelsea had taken an early 2-0 lead over Manchester United through goals from Conor Gallagher in the wee time of the first half and Palmer’s penalty in the 19th minute.
However, a costly mistake from Moises Caicedo allowed United to make a comeback, with Alejandro Garnacho scoring his first goal and Bruno Fernandes equalizing before halftime.
The second half was action-packed, and Garnacho seemed to secure the victory for Manchester United with a header from Antony’s cross which made it 2-3 for United.
However, the game took another turn when Noni Madueke won a penalty for his team, which Palmer converted in the 100th minute.
Just over a minute later, the former Manchester City player scored a deflected winner to clinch a dramatic victory for the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
After securing the 4-3 victory, Chelsea are currently positioned 10th on the Premier League table with 43 points from 29 matches.
Liverpool defeated Sheffield United 3-1 to clinch top spot
Liverpool’s midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored the decisive goal that propelled Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League and alleviated any concerns about a shaky start in the race for the title.
Despite dominating against Sheffield United, Jurgen Klopp’s team had to work hard for their 3-1 win, with Mac Allister’s superb strike putting them in control with just 14 minutes remaining.
Although Darwin Nunez had initially given Liverpool the lead, Sheffield United took advantage of a lapse in intensity to equalize through an own goal from Conor Bradley in the 58th minute.
However, Mac Allister’s thunderous finish into the top corner turned the tide in Liverpool’s favor and was a pivotal moment in the Premier League title race.
Shortly after, Liverpool sealed the 3-1 victory with Cody Gakpo’s header for their third goal, ensuring they secured the important three points.
Liverpool are now leading Arsenal by two points and Manchester City by three points with eight games left in the season.
