Cesar Azpilicueta seems to be in a good state as he shared a positive update after being hospitalized following a head injury he had during Chelsea’s defeat to Southampton on Saturday 18th of February, 2023.

An injured Azpilicueta was carried to the hospital on a stretcher after taking a high boot from Southampton’s Sekou Mara in Saturday’s Premier League match. The 33-year-old sent an injury update in which he expressed gratitude to his many supporters.

The game was delayed for 10 minutes so that he could receive medical attention. Fears that Azpilicueta’s injury was severe led to the administration of oxygen, but the Spaniard was able to wave to his supporters on the way off the field.

The Blues underwent their fifth loss of 2023 after a free-kick by James Ward-Prowse in first-half stoppage time. Chelsea are now 10 points behind the top four teams in the English Premier League with 15 matches remaining.

Cesar Azpilicueta took to his social media handle to update all the fans and loved ones; he wrote, “My family and I would like to thank everyone who has been looking after me since Saturday incident.

“From Chelsea medical team to teammates and opponents, to St Mary’s and Cleveland Hospital and all staff members and doctors a massive thanks from the bottom of my heart”.

” Now, time to recover and I will see you soon on the pitch”, the Spaniard added.

Because no bones were broken, Cesar Azpilicueta will be evaluated for a concussion before he can return to the field of play.

The FA has procedures in place for concussions that allow players to return to play six days after being diagnosed, provided they have passed all pre-return medical inspections.

The Under fire Graham Potter said he expected Azpilicueta to remain in the hospital for some days before he returned after he was hit in the face.

On Sunday, eight days after the injury, Chelsea will travel to take on Tottenham, but it’s highly doubtful that the veteran defender will be pushed back into play for that match.

Cesar Azpilicueta, now 33 years old, has played a key role in Chelsea’s success, joining the club in 2012 and contributing to the team’s two Premier League wins and Champions League victory in 2021. He was named the club captain in 2019.

No one knows how long Chelsea’s great player will be out, but coach Graham Potter hopes he’ll be ready for next week’s game against Tottenham.
