Cesar Azpilicueta is set to leave Chelsea this season as he brings his 11 years career at Stamford Bridge to an end.

The legendary Chelsea center-back will join a host of Chelsea players that are leaving the club this summer.

Azpilicueta, 33, still has a year remaining in his Chelsea contract but has chosen to leave the club for a new challenge.

The report adds Chelsea will terminate Cesar Azpilicueta’s contract to smoothen his exit from the club to his preferred destination.

With the current overhaul which has seen many first team players leaving the club, chances are Azpilicueta may no longer play a big role in Todd Boehly’s Chelsea new project. The Spaniard is more likely to play a bit-part role under new manager Mauricio Pochettino hence the need to call time on his stay at the club.

Azpilicueta’s imminent Chelsea exit is coming just a year after he renewed his contract with the club in 2022, signing fresh new terms with a two-year contract. He was linked with a move to his homeland in Spain with Barcelona reportedly lining up an offer for the player. But the 2022 exit plan was thwarted by Chelsea who were not ready to lose their leader and longest-serving player.

Now, Chelsea are ready to part ways with Azpilicueta as they press on with their squad overhaul this summer.

Azpilicueta joined Chelsea in 2012. He has made 349 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals.

According to reports, Inter Milan were on the trail of Cesar Azpilicueta as he fell off the pecking order at Chelsea. The Rossoneri were aiming for a double swoop for two defenders at Chelsea – Azpilicueta and Trevor Chalobah.

Trevor Chalobah may make the list of Chelsea summer departures but Chelsea’s decision on his future is still unknown. Chalobah signed a new long-term contract with Chelsea in 2022 till 2028.

Cesar Azpilicueta will be the third A-list first team player to leave the club this summer after N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.

Azpilicueta has won two Premier League and a Champions League title, scoring 17 goals in 508 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea.

Azpilicueta’s Inter Milan move may likely be the last lap of his career before hanging his boots.
