Brentford Football Club is an English professional football club that is situated in Brentford, West London. They presently play in the Premier League, England’s top flight, after winning promotion in the playoffs at the end of the 2020–21 Championship season.
The Bees were created in 1889 and played their home games at Griffin Park until 1904 when they moved to Brentford Community Stadium in 2020. Fulham and Queens Park Rangers, both headquartered in West London, are their primary rivals.
Brentford began playing amateur football before joining the London League in 1896, where they finished second in the Second Division and then first in the First Division, earning them promotion to the Southern League in 1898.
They were elected to the Football League in 1920 after winning the Southern League Second Division in 1900–01. Brentford won the Third Division South and Second Division titles in 1932–33 and 1934–35, respectively.
The club experienced a prosperous period in English football, finishing fifth in the First Division in 1935–36, its highest ever league finish, until being relegated to the Fourth Division in 1962 after three relegations.
They were Fourth Division champions in 1962–63, but after achieving promotion in 1971–72, they were relegated in 1966 and again in 1973. After securing promotion in 1977–78, Brentford played 14 seasons in the Third Division, winning the title in 1991–92 until being relegated again in 1993.
