Following reports of a worsening battle with cancer, surgeons have confirmed that the 82-year-old Brazilian football legend’s health is improving with no cause for alarm.

This update on Pele’s health was announced in a statement released by Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo, on Tuesday, December 6.

The doctors treating Pele at the hospital said he is being treated for a respiratory infection and has been responding adequately to treatment.

The statement of the doctors read: “Edson Arantes do Nascimento[Pele] was admitted to the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein on the 29th for a reassessment of the chemotherapy treatment for the colon tumor, identified in September 2021,”

“The patient continues to evolve with progressive improvement in his general condition, especially the respiratory infection.

“He remains in a common room, with stable vital signs, conscious and without new complications.”

Pele was diagnosed with colon cancer in September 2021 and was hospitalized for two weeks in December of the same year.

The three-time World Cup hero has received regular medication since having a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021.

It was, however, reported last Saturday that Pele had been transferred to a palliative care ward in the hospital to begin end-of-life care after he stopped responding to chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer.

The palliative care implies a cushioning medical therapy to cushion the effects of cancer which has defied all medical interventions.

According to the report, the chemotherapy had been halted with only palliative care for pain and shortness of breath being administered to him.

However, on Sunday, December 4, the 82-year-old Brazil all-time World Champion took to his Instagram page where he said he is “strong” and undergoing his treatment “as usual.”

In respect of this, the football universe has been sending well wishes to Pele, hoping for his rapid recovery.

The Brazilian team also posed with a huge banner of Pele following their overwhelming victory over South Korea in the ongoing Qatar World Cup tournament.

Images of the Brazilian legendary footballer Pelé celebrating goals and lifting trophies with Brazil’s national team appeared radiantly on the shirts, flags, and banners of the Brazilian fans who were at the Seleçao’s World Cup match against South Korea on Monday, December 5.

After the match, Brazil players paid tribute to Pele and dedicated their 4-1 win over South Korea to the legendary striker.

Regarded as the greatest footballer of all time, the 82-year-old Pele rose to international stardom at just 17 years and led Brazil to three World Cup victories.

Football universe and we at futball news pray and hope for his quick recuperation as we desire to see Pele bounce back to a healthier and sturdy life.
