Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of pocketing an enormous amount following their qualification for the 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League final.

Recall the German club booked their place in the Champions League final after they defeated Paris Saint Germain 2-0 on aggregate in the quarter-final on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

Following the semi-final triumph, Borussia Dortmund will lock horns against Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium in London on the 1st of June.

Meanwhile, regardless of the result at Wembley, the German Bundesliga outfit are in for a big cheque after the Champions League final.

The reason is Dortmund are on the verge of gaining €25 million in cash from Real Madrid as a transfer bonus which was in Jude Bellingham’s contract.

Recall that Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Dortmund last summer in a deal reportedly worth €103 million for the former Birmingham City star.

Should Dortmund lose in the Champions League final, they will receive some bonuses from Real Madrid, firstly, they’ll earn a whopping €5 million if the Spanish side wins the Champions League.

Secondly, the German side will earn €2 million if Bellingham makes it into the Team of the Tournament, and the €15.5 million fee that is typically paid to the runner-ups of the tournament means that the Bundesliga side could pocket as much as €25 million if Madrid beat them in the final.

Meanwhile, should the Black and Yellow shockingly win on June 1, they’ll earn €20 million from UEFA which is less than the Bellingham deal.

It is safe to say that Dortmund have nothing to lose in the Champions League final, except maybe their fans and players who are looking forward to winning their first European trophy.

It is the club’s second attempt in pursuit of the Champions League glory after losing to Bayern Munich at Wembley in 2013.

Jude Bellingham, on the other hand, looks to overtake Iker Casillas for the most Champions League starts before 21 years old with his record-breaking 32nd start at Wembley.
