Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a blow in the title race after a 1-1 draw with VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga on April 28, 2023.
The result means second-placed Bayern Munich will go to the top of the table with four more games to play if they defeat Hertha Berlin on April 30, 2023.
It was not an ideal start for Edin Terzic’s side, which went behind thanks to a wonderful strike from VfL Bochum’s Anthony Losilla in the fifth minute of the match to end his 35-match goal drought.
Takuma Asano delivered a low ball into the defense of Borussia Dortmund, and it was immediately cleared by Matt Hummels. The ball fell into Losilla’s path, and the player hit the ball into the top corner.
The Borussia Dortmund fans seem to be disappointed with the club’s slow start to the match, with the hope of winning the title hanging.
Karim Adeyemi got an instant equalizer from a tap-in, assisted by club striker Sébastien Haller. Both sides had plenty of chances to win the game, but they were not converting the chances.
Jude Bellingham had a strike denied, and Adeyemi played the rebounce wide. VfL Bochum Asano found himself wide and had a better chance of putting his club ahead, but he was denied by Niklas Sule’s interception.
The second half began with Borussia Dortmund being denied a clear penalty when Adeyemi was brought down in the box. The referee, Sascha Stegemann, and VAR failed to show interest in the incident.
Borussia Dortmund Youssoufa Moukoko came on in the second half and completely changed the game. His pace and dribbling ability gave the Borussia Dortmund side the confidence to attack.
Hummels had the ball in the net and celebrated widely in front of the traveling BVB fans, but the assistant referee raised his flag for offside.
Bellingham had another chance to give Borussia Dortmund all three points, but his header went the wrong way.
VfL Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann made impressive saves to give his team a vital point in the relegation battle.
Manuel Riemann was named the man of the match because of his excellent saves, and the VfL Bochum team should be grateful for the goalkeeper’s impact in the game.
BVB have not won their last six away matches in the Bundesliga, and it remains their worst run since October 2019.

Borussia Dortmund’s next match is against Wolfsburg on May 7, 2023. It is a must-win match for the Borussia Dortmund side.
VfL Bochum will travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach on May 6, 2023, in a bid to survive the relegation battle.
