Besiktas have confirmed the appointment of 38-year-old Burak Yilmaz as the club’s new head coach.
The Turkish giants confirmed the appointment of Yilmaz with a statement on the club’s social media platforms.
Besiktas appoint Burak Yilmaz as head coach
The Black Eagles revealed that assistant manager Burak Yilmaz, who took over the helm as manager following the resignation of Senol Gunes, will continue his role as head coach.
Besiktas have had an “Okay” start to the 2023/24 season, as they sit 4th on the Turkish Super Lig table.
Yilmaz handled the club the win against Istanbulspor and he has been given the opportunity to continue in that massive role.

This is Yilmaz’s first managerial role after he was appointed as assistant manager of Besiktas on July 1, 2023, following his retirement from football.
Burak Yilmaz is one of nine footballers to play for each of the Big Three clubs of Turkey – Galatasaray, Besiktas, Fernabache and he is one of only two players to have played for these three clubs and Trabzonspor (considered as the big four clubs in the country).
The 38-year-old will be saddled with the responsibility of guiding the club to the title, or possibly UEFA Champions League qualification spots.
Besiktas last won the Turkish Super Lig title in the 2020/21 season, and it was their 16th league title in history.
Yilmaz has an experienced and exciting crop of players at his disposal, including; Eric Bailly, Daniel Armatey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ante Rebic, Vincent Aboubakar, and many others.
What pattern of play with Burak Yilmaz employ?
It would be interesting to see the pattern of play employed by Burak Yilmaz, after learning the ropes under Senol Gunes, who is an all-rounder.
Gunes can utilize the tactics of a defensive manager when need be, and he can also play fluid attacking football when the moment or game calls for it.
Burak Yilmaz made 557 appearances during his career, scoring 268 goals and providing 77 assists across all competitions.
He also represented and captained the national team of Turkey, making 77 appearances, scoring 31 goals, and providing 8 assists across all competitions.
The 38-year-old, who played as a striker, is Turkey’s second all-time highest goalscorer.
Yilmaz also played outside of Turkey, donning the colors of clubs like LOSC Lille, and Fortuna Sittard.
He had a relatively successful football career, winning; 2 Turkish Super Lig titles, 1 Ligue 1 title, 5 Turkish Super Cups, amongst many others.
Individually, Burak Yilmaz was also recognized for his brilliance in the round leather game, as he won many individual awards.
Yilmaz was handed the Süper Lig Player of the Season award for the 2012/13 season, and he also won the Süper Lig Forward of the Season on four different occasions – 2010/2011, 2011/12, 2012/13, and 2018/19.
