Manchester City have revealed their unwavering stance on Portugal international Bernardo Silva this summer.
The Citizens have reportedly informed both Paris Saint Germain and Barcelona that they don’t want to partake in negotiations for Silva.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City will table Bernardo Silva a bigger salary and a lengthier deal in the coming days.
The 28-year-old made 55 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side last term, helping the club win the treble – Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
He joined Manchester City from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on July 1, 2017, for a transfer fee of €50 million.
Bernardo Silva has continued to excel in attack for Manchester City and he is one of the mainstay in City’s attacking setup.
Manchester City On Bernardo Silva
Meanwhile, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano also noted that Silva’s stance will be important, but the Premier League champions have made their firm position known.
Bernardo Silva’s current contract with Manchester City expires on the 30th of June 2025.
The former Benfica midfielder has also received enticing offers from Saudi Arabia, but he looks unperturbed by those links.
PIF clubs in Al Hilal and Al Nassr have been linked to Bernardo Silva but their offers were reportedly rejected in June 2023.
He has won several trophies in his 6-year stay at Manchester City so far, including; 1 UEFA Champions League title, 5 Premier League, and 2 FA Cups.
The 28-year-old has made 306 appearances cumulatively for the Citizens, scoring 55 goals and providing 59 assists across all competitions.
Being a key part of Pep Guardiola’s side, Silva is also expected to feature regularly during the 2023/24 season.
Manchester City plays Arsenal on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in the courting-raiser to the new Premier League season.
Bernardo Silva is expected to be in the lineup for that game as the Citizens prepare to kickstart their league-title defense.
Pep Guardiola’s side would commence the 2023/24 season with an away game against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley at Turf Moor.
Manchester City signings this summer
The Citizens have already made two key reinforcements in defense and midfield, complementing a litany of quality players in the English club.
The 9-time Premier League Champions have signed two Croatian internationals; Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
Manchester City are eyeing to win their 4th Premier League title in a row, which would be a record-title triumph should it happen, in English top-flight football history.
However, they should face immense competition for the title, given the signings made by their rivals in the Premier League.
Anyway, Bernardo Silva should play a key role in whatever successes the Citizens hope to achieve during the coming season.
Silva has made 82 appearances for Portugal, scoring 11 goals and providing 25 assists across all competitions.
The 28-year-old has also won the UEFA Nations League title with The Navigators of Portugal.
