Benjamin Mendy involves in a rape and sexual assault case, Man City have suspended him

Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy, allegedly raped and sexually assaulted victims above the age of 16 according to a police statement.

He is scheduled to appear before Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 27. Reports confirmed that the Premier League footballer has been arrested and remanded in jail pending his appearance in court.

A police statement announced that Benjamin Mendy has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The footballer reportedly committed the crimes between October 2020 and August 2021.

A statement from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom read: “The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorized Cheshire Constabulary to charge a man in connection with allegations of sexual assault.

“Benjamin Mendy, aged 27, has been charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

“The charges relate to three complainants over the age of 16 and are alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021.

“Mendy, of Withinlee Road, Prestbury, has been remanded in police custody and is set to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court on Friday 27 August

“Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service would like to remind everyone that criminal proceedings against Mendy are live and that he has a right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice ongoing proceedings.”

Benjamin Mendy has been playing for Manchester City since July 24, 2017, when he left French Ligue 1 club Monaco for a transfer fee worth €57.50 million.

Since he arrived at the Premier League club, he has not been able to make much impact due to injuries.

Due to his fitness issues, he has managed to make just 75 appearances in all competitions in which he scored two goals and provided 12 assists.

So far this season, he has played one Premier League game for Manchester City and also played in the Community Shield which City lost to Leicester City.

He was in the Manchester City squad that won three Premier League titles and two English League Cups under coach Pep Guardiola.

In a statement, Manchester City said: “Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.

“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is, therefore, unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”

Benjamin Mendy who still has until June 30, 2023, before his contract with Manchester City expires, earns over £100,000-per-week at the Premier League club.

He made his debut for France national team on March 25, 2017, and was part of the country’s squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

At the time of publishing this report, the love affairs status of Benjamin Mendy has not been confirmed. Hence, it is not known yet whether he is married. It has not also been confirmed whether he has children.
