Thiago Alcantara is one of the football stars in Europe who always want to experience life in as many top clubs as possible before retirement. The 29-year-old Spanish international has played in Spanish La Liga with Barcelona and he has been playing in German Bundesliga with Bayern Munich for seven years.

Those two leagues and clubs are among the most prestigious in Europe. He has won virtually everything in club football playing for the two teams. Hence, he has joined the click of players who would want to keep exploring the world of football as much as their strength and their name can carry them.

In the light of the fact that he has spent 7 glorious years with Bayern Munich, winning a whopping 7 Bundesliga titles, 4 DFB-Pokal, 2 DFL-Supercup, and 1 Fifa Club World Cup, a change or thirst for a new challenge is imminent. The Spanish attacking midfielder whose contract with Bayern Munich will expire in June 2021 could be looking at the Premier League for his new challenge. And the precise destination could be the champions of the league, Liverpool football club.

Why the Premier League is destination next for Alcantara

The manager of Bayern Munich, Hansi Flick, who was recently questioned about Thiago Alcantara’s decision to leave the club for a new challenge, told Sport Bild that since Thiago Alcantara has played in Spain and in Germany, his next destination should be in England.

“Thiago played for Barcelona and seven years for Bayern Munich“, Flick said. “He wants a new challenge which, in my opinion, should be the Premier League.

“He is a very important player for us, who gives the team that certain something, and we have to replace him with the same quality.”

In the same vein, Bayern Munich‘s sporting director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has affirmed that Thiago Alcantara is not interested in extending his deal with Bayern Munich. The sporting director said Bayern is ready to accept a reasonable price from any club that wants Alcantara’s services.

He also revealed that since the attacking midfielder has played for two major leagues in Europe, his next destination should be another major league which is possibly Premier League.

“For a while, it looked like he wanted to stay but at some point, he obviously thought that he would like to do something different at the end of his career”, Rummenigge said.

“Thiago is 29 now and as soon as the “3” is up it will be a little more difficult to find a top club in Europe, so you have to understand him a little bit. He had a top club in Spain, a top club in Germany so maybe he would like to join a top club in England.”

Liverpool stand on the coming of Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool football club is the possible destination for the Spanish attacking midfielder. All fingers are pointing to the direction of the Premier League champions. However, Liverpool is yet to make an official bid for Thiago Alcantara.

It is believed that though the Spain international refused to sign the contract extension Bayern Munich offered him in anticipation of a new challenge, there is no Space for him to get such a challenge at Liverpool. The Premier League club has about 8 players –  Fabinho, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Curtis Jones, who can play the role of the Spanish midfielder.

But one question which could make Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, to consider bringing the Spanish star to Anfield Stadium is the dynamism the 29-year-old attacking midfielder brings to the table.

“In Germany, they are saying that if Liverpool buy Thiago, they’ll win every game next year!” German football expert Raphael Honigstein said.

“He’s just been so good. If there’s one player they’re missing in that midfield it’s that technical player. More of a creator and a dribbler, somebody who scores spectacular goals and can find a pass.

“It’s not a player that Liverpool have accommodated in recent years and it would change the dynamic of their midfield if you find space for him.”

In the outgoing 2019-2020 season, Thiago Alcantara played 37 times in all competitions for Bayern. In those appearances, he scored just three goals made two assists. His current market value is €48 million.
