Bayern Munich is putting together its third offer for Liverpool with the hope of signing Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
According to Romano, Bayern Munich and Mane will soon agree on personal conditions, but the main stumbling block has been the German club’s transfer fee bid, which has so far been insufficient for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s attempt to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is a “done” deal, according to various analysts. Nunez has been linked with Bayern Munich on several occasions in recent months but will be heading to Liverpool instead.
Mane and Bayern Munich appear to be ready to finalize the deal, but Liverpool wants to make sure it is suitably paid for in line with Mane’s quality and importance at the Premier League club.
In terms of Bayern Munich, it’s unclear how far the club will go to sign Mane. At this time, the only other club that has been connected to Mane is Paris Saint-Germain, but those speculations have since died down.
Bayern Munich’s initial £21 million [€25 million] bid was rejected, and Liverpool promptly rejected a follow-up offer worth £30 million [€35 million] plus add-ons, with the Reds demanding about £38 million [€45 million] for Mane’s signing.
Despite having only one year left on his current contract, the Liverpool think tank feels Mane is a world-class talent who should command a large transfer cost.
From all indications, the German Bundesliga champions intend to replace their goals machine, Robert Lewandowski with Mane this summer.
The Polish striker has been vocal about his desire to leave Munich this summer, and his departure appears to be on the cards. Lewandowski is said to be determined to play for FC Barcelona from 2022-2023 season.
Even though Barcelona’s finances require attention, it is only a matter of time before the Poland international lands in Spain.
Since joining the German giants in 2014, Lewandowski, 33, has scored 344 goals. In each of his eight seasons with the club, he has won the Bundesliga.
Mane isn’t anticipated to put up the same statistics as Lewandowski but is seen as a top-tier replacement.
After spending £85 million on Darwin Nunez, Liverpool will want to trade Mane this summer since Jurgen Klopp’s team now appears to have a wealth of attacking alternatives.
Luis Dias, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah are now available to Klopp. Even though Firmino and Salah’s contracts are set to expire next summer, Liverpool’s attack is set for the coming season.
