Bayern Munich have been handed a massive setback as a key player reportedly sustained an injury ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal.

Thomas Tuchel declared on Saturday, April 13, that Bayern Munich have lost Kingsley Coman to yet another injury ahead of their second-leg tie in the Champions League on Wednesday, April 17.

The German powerhouse were in action in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon against Koln and they came out victorious but later lost their star winger to the hand of a suspected muscle injury.

The Bundesliga defending champions were below their best on Saturday but managed to defeat Koln courtesy of second-half goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller.

Following their disastrous performances this season, which have handed Bayer Leverkusen a huge chance to win the League title.

Tuchel made changes to his side in preparation for Wednesday’s crucial game against Arsenal but things didn’t go according to plan for the former Chelsea boss as one of his talented players was forced off with an injury.

Kingsley Coman had to be carried off the pitch in Bayern’s 2-0 win over Koln, which seems to be a major setback for Tuchel’s team who have previously lost Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane to an injury.

The Frenchman withdrew from the action after just 50 minutes and was replaced by Jamal Musiala in a worrying sight for Bayern fans.

The 27-year-old has a supposed muscle injury and, to Tuchel’s sorrow, may miss the rest of the season.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, Tuchel told reporters; “The big downside to the whole game is the injury to Kingsley Coman. It makes me very sad because I know how hard he worked and how important he is for us. First Serge Gnabry is out, then he and Leroy Sane are doubts (for Wednesday).”

With Coman definitely out for the game on Wednesday, Bayern’s injury problems out-wide are deepened.

Thomas Tuchel explained that Sane and Gnabry are also in doubt about their availability against Arsenal and will leave Bayern sweating on their fitness.

Arsenal visits Munich in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on Wednesday, April 17, with their first tie ended in a stalemate on Tuesday, April 9.

Arsenal and Bayern drew 2-2 in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium in London on Tuesday and the tie will be resolved as the two teams meet again in Munich on Wednesday night.

With the Bundesliga out of reach and Bayern out of the German Cup, the Champions League is the Bavarians’ only remaining chance for silverware in 2023/24.

If they beat Arsenal, they will progress to a semi-final against Manchester City or Real Madrid.

What is next?

It remains to be seen which of the two teams will progress to the semifinals when Bayern Munich lock horns against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night at 8:00 WAT.
