Barcelona are set to extend the loan contracts of Portuguese duo Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo as confirmed by the club president Joan Laporta.
The pair have been the most in-form loanees this season after joining the Catalan club from their respective parent clubs.
Barcelona brokered the loan for the two players at the stroke of the last transfer window, and the loan moves have turned out to be the best deals for the club.
Joao Cancelo joined the club from Manchester City following his fallout with Man City manager Pep Guardiola for lack of game.
He was previously loaned to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga before the second loan spell with the Catalans.
Joao Felix suffered a similar fate, joining Barcelona on a loan after he fell off the pecking order in Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
Felix was previously loaned to Chelsea in the Premier League, where he had a stellar short-term campaign before the switch to Barcelona.
It has been a brilliant run with the Catalans for the pair. Joao Felix has scored LaLiga goals with 2 assists in his 22 appearances for Barcelona.
He has made 7 Champions League appearances for the club as well, scoring 3 goals with an assist.
Joao Cancelo has 2 goals with 3 assists in 24 LaLiga appearances for Barcelona, including 2 goals and an assist in 8 Champions League appearances.
Following their impressive loan shifts, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed the club will extend their loan deals at the end of the season when their current will expire.
“I think both João Cancelo and João Félix will continue at Barça next season”.
“I hope Atlético won’t create any issue. I don’t think Man City will put any limit to that”.
“For sure it will be an extension of loans with a fixed price”, told MD.
The agreement for both players did not involve a buy option. However, changes to the terms of the agreement between Barcelona and the duo’s parent clubs is not ruled out.
As per Goal, Atletico Madrid were reportedly ready to part ways with Joao Felix but wanted £70m for the player. Barcelona would have opted for permanent deals for the two players, as per close sources but had to settle for an extended loan deal due to a crippling financial crisis.
