Spanish heavyweights Barcelona have been largely impenetrable in the La Liga this campaign with a mean defense that cannot be easily broken into.
And if that’s just it, wait till I share this astonishing statistic, it goes thus: “Barcelona have conceded as many goals in 5 games against Real Madrid as in 27 La Liga games”.
Cumulatively, the Blaugrana side has conceded just 9 goals in this league this term boasting of an impressive record in defense.
With a back four of Alex Balde/Jordi Alba, Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde/Sergio Roberto, Barcelona have been astute in defense.
Xavi Hernandez has made the defense of Barcelona thick and it has reflected in the La Liga standings this campaign.
The Catalan giants sit at the summit of the La Liga with 71 points amassed so far, 12 points ahead of second placed Real Madrid who have accumulated 59 points so far.
Despite the torrent of off-pitch issues that the club is bedeviled with, Xavi Hernandez has managed to create a bunch of hardworking players whose aim is to be dogged and resilient.
The 9 goal tally they have conceded in the Spanish top-flight this season is the same number as earlier indicated in the stat that second place Real Madrid have netted against them in their last five meetings.
However, they face the possibility of not playing in the UEFA Champions League next campaign due to corruption issues.
The feat Barcelona have achieved is highly commendable looking at what is currently rocking the club’s boat amidst reports that they may be stripped of their titles won during the period they allegedly made payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former president of the refereeing committee of Spain.
Throughout the course of the last campaign, Barcelona conceded 38 goals in 38 La Liga games which is an average of one goal conceded every match.
But so far this campaign they have shrunk that tally to a meagre 9 goals even as the expiration of the 2022/23 La Liga draws nearer.
The Spanish Giants have kept 20 staggering clean sheets in 27 La Liga games this season conceding only to 7 teams namely; Real Madrid ×2, Almeria, Real Betis, Espanyol, Osasuna, and Real Sociedad.
Barcelona conceded 38 goals in 38 matches in 2020-2021 season, their lowest tally conceded since the 2010/11 season was the 21 goals they conceded that season and in the 2014/15 season.
That basically shows the incredible work Xavi Hernandez is doing with his side that has seemingly gone under the radar.
There are 11 matches remaining for the Blaugrana side before the end of the 2022/23 campaign. It’s left to be seen if they would concede more goals and if they do concede how many more would they let in as the season nears its final bus stop.
