It was party time for Barcelona on Saturday as they celebrated their 2022/23 Spanish La Liga triumph in front of their home supporters.
Despite the defeat at the Sportify Camp Nou to Real Sociedad, Barca had already secured the La Liga title into the kitty.
There was celebratory mood across their home turf after the full-time whistle as players of the Blaugrana side were crowned champions following their remarkable campaign in the La Liga.
Xavi Hernandez has led the Catalan based club to the La Liga title in his first full season in charge of the club.
And in a video shared by the club, Barcelona players were seen tossing their manager into the air as they relished their glorious outing in front of a packed Sportify Camp Nou.
The newly-crowned champions of the Spanish La Liga lost 2-1 to Imanol Alguacil’s Real Sociedad but their 14 point lead over second placed Real Madrid cannot be matched.
Following their away win over neighbor’s Espanyol, it became evident that the Spanish heavyweights have done enough to reclaim the Spanish top-flight title.
Barcelona last won the La Liga in the 2018/19 campaign but after impressive performances under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez, the trophy returned to Catalonia.
It has been a turbulent season for Barcelona off the field of play despite their victorious campaign as talks regarding corruption constantly hovered around the club.
Be that as it may, they didn’t allow it to dismay them as they continued to soldier on in the Spanish top-flight.
However, they couldn’t replicate their wonderful showing in the La Liga across Europe.
They crashed out in the group stage of the Champions League falling to the Europa League before they were eliminated from the round of 32 of the competition by Manchester United.
Additionally, UEFA also has an eye on the issue of corruption hanging over Barcelona.
But following a meeting between Joan Laporta and Aleksander Ceferin, the European football governing body has now decided to “wait until next season to see the decision of the court on the case before taking any action.”
Away from that, there are reports indicating a possible return of Lionel Messi to Barcelona.
The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta has vowed to bring back the Argentine whose contract with the Parisians ends in the summer.
Barcelona have also offered Xavi Hernandez a two-year contract extension as they look to continue the relationship with the Spaniard.
Anyway, the former Al-Sadd manager in April said he was focused on winning the La Liga, insisting that he wants to wait till the end of the campaign before making a decision.
It’s left to be seen, if he would put pen-to-paper on a new deal, now that the Spanish La Liga title is now in the bag.
Uncertainty also hovers around the club’s budget for the summer in the transfer market as the club is still faced with serious financial difficulties.
Meanwhile, they can bask and enjoy their second trophy of the season, having lifted the Spanish Super Cup in January.
They would also be saying goodbye to club legend and captain Sergio Busquets who would be exiting the side after the expiration of the season.
