Atlanta United brutally mocked Inter Miami midfielder Lionel Messi after a 5-2 win over the team in Major League Soccer on September 17, 2023.
Atlanta United posted a picture of pizza and tomatoes on their Twitter account with the caption, “Here you have your pizza for the trip.”
Apart from the club making mockery of Lionel Messi, the Atlanta United fans didn’t spare him either. The fans were shouting “Where is Messi”.
The Argentina legend was out of the Inter Miami match after he was declared not 100% fit.
This is the first time he has missed an Inter Miami match since joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain. Also, the match against Atlanta United was the first match Inter Miami had ever lost since the signing of Messi.
The loss had brought sorrow to the hearts of Inter Miami fans, with the club now sitting in 14th place in the Major Soccer League.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was available for Argentina’s win against Ecuador during the international break but could not get into the starting lineup against Bolivia due to minor injury.
However, he was part of the coaching staff and was available to watch his national team dismantle Bolivia.
How Atlanta United defeated Messi in Miami
Inter Miami went ahead in the 25th minute thanks to in-form striker Leonardo Campana, who had been Inter Miami’s best player apart from Lionel Messi.
A few minutes after that, Atlanta United’s Tristan Muyumba equalized for the Atlanta United team. It was a beautiful scene as the fans erupted with loud voices.
Kamal Miller scored an own goal to put Atlanta United ahead in the 41st minute of the match. The defender lacks the awareness and ability to clear the ball.
Atlanata United defender Brooks Lennon made it 3-1 in the first half. It appeared that the team was already going down with no assist from the attacking player when defending set pieces.
Inter Miami got a penalty in the second half, and in-form striker Campana scored from the penalty spot to give Inter Miami hope of getting an equalizer.
Atlanata United Giorgos Giakoumakis made it 4-2. Tyrell Wolf scored in the 89th minute to end the match in favor of Atlanta United.

Messi and his teammates will welcome Toronto FC to the PVN stadium on September 21, 2023, at 12:30 am.
Messi will be available for the match against the Toronto side, and luckily, they may get a win.
