Arsenal and PSV have had a long-standing rivalry in the European competition and now they take it to the biggest stage.

PSV have appointed a new manager Peter Bosz recently, an addition the English team needs to be wary of.

The London club have a strong record against PSV, with three victories in their eight previous encounters, making them the favorite to bag all three points.

Match Preview

The matchup between these two teams on Tuesday, September 19, will be their first game of the Champions League group stage fixtures.

Arsenal have met with PSV eight times in the last two decades both in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

Both Arsenal and PSV met last season when they featured in the same group in the Europa League, but the Gunners were victorious in the encounter.

Recall we reported that the Gunners have not played in the Champions League since the 2016/2016 season and they are back now.

But PSV will have an element of surprise in their new manager Peter Bosz, who replaced the former boss Ruud van Nistelrooy who resigned in June.

Mikel Arteta will face PSV without his new signing Jurrian Timber after he ruptured his cruciate ligament in August, ruling him out until 2024.

Speaking on the injury, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “Huge blow. Especially for him after just joining the club. To have the injury he has is a huge blow.”

“We recruited him with clear intentions and what he was bringing to the team was evident, but he’s not going to be able to do it this season.”

“We have to adapt. These things happen, unfortunately, and we have to move on.”

Thomas Party has also sustained a groin injury that will keep him out for 6-weeks and will not feature in their Champions League game.

Arsenal back-up midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who suffered a knee injury in January this year, will also not feature in the match.

PSV on the other hand will be without four players, after right-back Jordan Teze picked up a knock in early September.

They will also miss defenders Mauro Junior, Armando Obispo and Fredrick Oppegard when the face Arsenal in the UCL.
