Arsenal have completed the signing of Netherlands defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax for a fee of £40 million.
The 22-year-old defender has signed a five-year deal with the club. Arsenal’s initial bid of £30 million was turned down by Ajax.
Ajax had been hoping Arsenal would pay up to £50 million for Timber, but the desire to play for Arsenal made the two clubs come to an agreement.
The right back becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the season after the North London club signed Kai Havertz from their rival Chelsea.
Mikel Arteta knows fully well that Jurrien Timber can play as a center back and also as a right back. He is also capable of playing as a holding midfielder.
His arrival could mean Arsenal will be ready to listen to offers for Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney.
The defender is a product of the Ajax Academy, and he won Ajax player of the season in the 2021–22 season after helping the club win the Dutch title ahead of their rivals.
It was his excellent form that made Erik Ten Hag gained interest in the player. Manchester United initially tried to get his attention last season, but he pinned his future at Ajax.
Although, due to the poor season at Ajax and the lack of quality at the club, the defender thought a move to Arsenal would be better.
Last season, Timber made 47 appearances for Ajax, scoring two goals in all competitions as they bowed out of the Champions League and failed to win the title.
He has 15 caps since making his debut in 2021 and was also part of the team that lost to Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter finals
What height is Jurrien timber?
The defender has a height of 1.79m (5ft 10 in). He is probably likely to thrive on the right wing due to the physicality of the Premier League at the centre of the defence.
Jurrien Timber Personal Life
The defender has a twin brother named Quinten Timber, who plays as a midfielder for Feyenoord in the Netherlands. The twin’s mother is named Marilyn, who is from Aruba, and their father Maduro is from Curaçao in the Netherlands.
Due to a past issue between his mother and father, Jurrien took his family name instead of his father’s name, Maduro.
It was reported that Jurrien Timber and his twin brother were raised alone by their mother, Marilyn, without the help of their father.
Dylan Timber is the younger brother of both Quinten and Jurrien. He plays for VVV Venlo in the Netherlands.
While he was a child, Jurrien and his brother fell in love with football, and they always put on the Manchester United Jersey with an AIG logo on it. But they later grew to become Arsenal fans.
