The Gunners secured a place in next season’s Europa League with a win over city rival Chelsea. Their 14th FA Cup had saved Arsenal from a terrible season.
The Gunners hope of qualifying for Europe hinged on the FA Cup as they finished 8th in the 19/20 Premier League, their worst ever finish since 1995 before the longest-serving manager Arsene Wenger was at the club. Arsenal had finished the season below Tottenham, Chelsea, Wolves, Leceister, Manchester United, Manchester City, and champions Liverpool.
With the FA cup triumph, Mikel Arteta’s side will join the Europa League competition from the group stage; this also means Tottenham who finished sixth and Wolves seventh would have to join the competition from the second stage of the qualifying round of the competition.
Arsenal trailed early in the game when Christian Pulisic scored inside the first 5 minutes of the game as they struggled to find their rhythm.
However, as the game continued the Gunners began to affirm themselves to the game as they got an equalizer 15 minutes before the break when Aubameyang scored from the spot-kick after Chelsea captain Azplicueta in the box fouled him.
Arsenal captain, Aubameyang then scored the second goal after the club’s most expensive player Nicolas Pepe gave the Arsenal captain a beautiful pass as he skipped pass Kurt Zouma to score with a lofted finish over Chelsea keeper Willy Caballero.
Arsenal still has the chance to win a second trophy this season as they play Greek side Olympiakos in the second leg fixture, of their round of 16, with a 1-1 aggregate score.
Mikel Arteta seems to have found the secret formula to get his team back to winning ways. He could soon attain a legendary status as a manager sooner than expected if he is able to give the team its first double.
