Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted that the North London side are ready to do better than last season in an attempt to win the Premier League over the favorite Manchester City.

The Spanish manager claimed that Arsenal needed to be perfect to stop the Manchester City side from winning the Premier League title again.

Evaluating Arsenal’s Performance Last Season and Why They Lost the Title to Manchester City

In the 2023–24 season, Arsenal were on top of their game, winning 28 out of 38 matches in the Premier League. They were exceptional to an extent; they defeated Manchester United both home and away, and Arsenal secured four points each against Manchester City and Chelsea.

Inclusively, Arsenal were able to secure four points against Liverpool. This means all big four teams in the Premier League failed to defeat Arsenal last season.

However, the team lacks consistency. A team that secured all necessary points against the big four still lost five times in the Premier League to smaller teams.

Aston Villa secured six points against Arsenal, beating the North London team home and away. Newcastle won against Arsenal at St James Park; Fulham defeated Arsenal at Craven Cottage 2-1.

Also, West Ham United defeated the North London side, Arsenal, 2-0 at the Emirates.

In the 2022–23 Premier League season, Arsenal started as title contenders, but towards the end of the season, they collapsed, allowing Manchester City to win the Premier League.

Manchester City have consistency over the Arsenal side. Even though there are lack of key players at a period of time at the club, City still find a way to win matches against Premier League teams.

Arsenal

Manchester City won the 2023–24 Premier League title, two points ahead of Mikel Arteta side. The Blue Side of Manchester won the title on the last day of the Premier League after a sound win against West Ham.

Manchester City’s victory over West Ham United on the last day of the 2023-24 Premier League season rendered Arsenal’s victory over Everton irrelevant.

How Far Can They Go in the 2024–25 Premier League Campaign?

The fans are expecting a two-horse race again this season between Manchester City and Arsenal. The Gunners are expected to finish below Manchester City in May 2025.

The Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has failed to improve his squad this summer with the signing of new players in a more needed position.

The North London team have only signed a centre back, Riccardo Calafiori, this season. He is also capable of playing at left back. However, there is no replacement for Bukayo Saka, who played almost all the matches for the Gunners last season.

He is likely to be excessively used again this season. If he loses his form, the club may likely struggle because Saka remains the most lethal attacker in the Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Gabriel Jesus, who is an injury-prone striker, will lead the Gunners attack this season, with Kai Havertz and Eddie Nketiah being the only players that will play his position, if the Brazilian is not available.

These two individuals won’t get the club 30 goals in a season. Before the transfer window ends, Arsenal should get a recognized striker capable of scoring goals on every attempt.
