Arsenal superstar Emile Smith Rowe Rowe has successfully undergone major surgery to help recover from a long-term injury.
The 22-year-old England national team midfielder has only made four appearances for the Gunners so far this season.
He featured in just 47 minutes throughout his four appearances this term as a substitute as an incessant injury continues to discomfort him.
Since the new season began, Emile Smith Rowe is yet to start a game for the Premier League table toppers after struggling through pre-season with re-occurring injury cases that further worsened his form.
Since the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 4, 2022, Emile Smith Rowe’s fit issue has escalated forcing the medical team of the club to take a more drastic approach which will keep him out of football untill December 2022.
Arsenal released a statement via their website on Thursday, September 29, 2022, to confirm the state of his medicals.
The club’s statement read: “In recent months, Emile Smith Rowe has been experiencing discomfort in his groin, which has limited his training and match appearances.
“Following a significant setback at our Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 4, and after further specialist consultations and discussions with our medical team, Emile underwent surgery to repair a damaged tendon in his groin.
“This successful surgery took place in London in the past few days and Emile’s rehabilitation programme is already underway. We are hopeful that Emile will return to full training in December.”
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta also confirmed the 22-year-old had been battling with a groin injury after the Manchester United Premier League defeat on September 4 and the club has decided that he undergo surgery to resolve the issue.
Speaking about the 22-year-old hampered recovery, Gunners boss Arteta defined it as “very frustrating”
He added: “He’s a kid that loves playing football. It’s the biggest thing in his life. And when he’s not capable of doing that, especially after the run of games and performances that he had with us the year before, it’s just difficult.
“But injuries are part of football that you’re going to get at some stage of your career. It’s how you face those difficult moments and now you make the next step.”
The 22-year-old gunners young star had a breakout season, scoring 10 goals with two assists in 33 premier league matches last season.
Smith Rowe’s stunning start to the 2021/22 season earned him his maiden national call-up and successive cap last Autumn as he made his England debut in November last year.
Emile Smith Rowe is yet to be seen in action after he played two more matches for England and scored his first goal after his debut.
He will not be available for national duty with Gareth Southgate’s side as he will miss the Qatar World Cup while he undergo personal recovery over the winter.
