An old video of the footballer thanking the former Lagos governor for giving N5 million to his foundation was shared by journalist Sam Omatseye recently.

Omatseye explains why Kanu Nwankwo was promoting Tinubu by sharing the video, which was recorded in March 2022 during a visit to celebrate Tinubu’s 70th birthday.

The corruptible journalist posted the following on Twitter quoting Kanu: “In year 2020, I wanted to start Kanu Heart Foundation. Peter Obi and all the Igbo Leaders refused to Help me. I reached out to Tinubu, he came to Sheraton Hotels, Abuja and gave me 5 million Nara. That money was what I used in starting the foundation you hear today”.

This effort is only one of many that have been made recently to attract the public’s attention to the veteran politician.

Kanu responded to the video on his social media pages by claiming that he is a football player and not a politician and issuing a warning to those who are spreading false information about him.

The former Super Eagles star said: “I have said it and I will say it again. I am not a politician but a footballer. Whoever is spreading fake news that I asked you to vote for somebody. I do not do such. My life is all about football.

“That is my field and I am proud of it. This is the last time: stop spreading fake, wicked news against Papilo. I am here to help people. Do not try to destroy what you cannot destroy. Go get your PVC and vote for the best.”

Sharing the video, Kanu wrote: “Hello my country people. Do what is right and vote. Kindly stop spreading fake news in my name that I ask you to vote for anyone.“

“Am not the one to choose who you will vote for so stop this rubbish with my name and go and get your PVC and vote. Any media outlet or persons or group of persons that continue to use my name to spread fake news will be dealt with in the court of law. Let’s all be guided.”

Though Kanu, a former African Footballer of the Year, remained mum regarding who of the candidates he is claimed to have backed, there have been media rumors claiming that the former Arsenal player is supporting Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

When the former governor of Lagos State celebrated his 70th birthday a few months ago, Kanu and other former Super Eagles players paid him a courtesy call. Despite criticism for the visit, the former Super Eagles star defended his conduct.

The ruling party in Nigeria, the APC, is becoming more desperate by the day, and Nigerians are having none of it.

After uploading the fake post, the aforementioned Journalist shut down the comments to avoid comments from other Nigerians.
