Talks are said to be progressing wonderfully between Arsenal and Mikel Arteta over a new long-term contract.

The Gunners are delighted to continue their relationship with Arteta, as they aim to win the Premier League title for the first time in about 2 decades.

Reports indicate that key figures at Arsenal are keen to tie Mikel Arteta down to a new long-term deal to fend off interest from other top European clubs eyeing the Spaniard.

The 42-year-old’s current deal with the North London side runs until the expiration of the 2024/25 season.

It is believed that Arsenal want to continue with Arteta, as they believe in continuity and they feel he will be the best man to lead them to the lead title, having been very close in the last two seasons.

Arsenal Challenging Manchester City For The Premier League Title

The Gunners have battled Manchester City for the trophy for the past two seasons, but have fallen short at the dying embers of the campaign.

Arsenal ended the 2023/24 season two points behind the Cityzens, officially losing the title on the final day of the campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s side also finished 5 points adrift of Manchester City in the 2022/23 campaign, despite being at the summit of the log for most parts of the season.

Arsenal qualified for the UEFA Champions League but were dumped out of the competition by Bayern Munich at the quarter-final stage.

The North London were also eliminated from the FA Cup in the 3rd round by Liverpool, while they were sent packing from the Carabao Cup by West Ham United in the 4th round.

Arteta was formerly assistant manager of Manchester City from July 2016 – December 2019, working under Pep Guardiola, who reports indicate could be leaving the Cityzens at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Mikel Arteta was appointed manager of Arsenal on December 22, 2019, and he has taken charge of 231 matches, winning 140 of those games, drawing 34 and losing 57.

Mikel Arteta’s Major Trophy With Arsenal

The former Barcelona man last guided the Gunners to a major league title in 2020, leading Arsenal to win the FA Cup in the 2019/20 season.

The North London side have also won 2 Community Shield titles since the Spaniard took up the mantle of leadership at the side.

It will be interesting to see how Arteta sets up his side next season, hoping to crack the Manchester City code in the Premier League, amid the rigors of other competitions.

Jurgen Klopp did all he could to wrestle the Cityzens off their grip on the Premier League title, and he managed to win it only once despite managing Liverpool for nearly 9 years.

Klopp’s Reds also came close to winning the league crown on other occasions, but they fell short due to the brilliance of Manchester City.
