Antonio Conte and Inter Milan have ended their relationship three weeks after the Italian coach helped the club to win the Italian Serie A title.
It was reported earlier on Wednesday that Antonio Conte might leave Inter Milan because he did not agree with the club’s board to downsize his squad ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
Despite winning the Serie A title three weeks ago, the club is still owing over €500 million due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and ambitious spending. Hence, one of the ways the owners of the club decided to stop the club from going into full financial crisis is to cut the cost of running the club.
To do that, they would have to sell some of the top players Antonio Conte used to win the Seria A title in the 2020-2021 season. And he would be forced to make do with other players whose weekly wages are not too huge.
With such a plan, it was likely that Inter Milan might sell top stars like Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, and Achraf Hakimi this summer.
Before Antonio Conte left the club on Wednesday evening, May 26, it was reported that the coach had been informed that the club intend to raise €100 million before the end of this summer and they plan to achieve that by cutting 20 percent of the club’s operation cost.
Conte refused to agree with the club’s president Steven Zhang and their Chinese owners Suning, hence, he had to terminate his contract with the club by mutual consent.
“FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte for the termination of his contract by mutual consent. The club would like to thank Antonio for the extraordinary work that he has done, culminating in Inter’s 19th top-flight title. Antonio Conte will forever remain a part of our Club’s history,” the club said in a statement.
Antonio Conte who join Inter Milan in 2019, about a year after he left Chelsea, has reportedly attracted the attention of Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, and a host of other clubs immediately after he aborted his stay at Inter Milan.
On the other hand, reports claimed that Inter Milan could replace Conte with the former coach of Juventus, Massimiliano Allegri, or the current coach of Lazio Simone Inzaghi.
Now that Conte has left the Italian club, football fans across the world await to see how Inter Milan would sell their best players this summer and how they intend to cope in the forthcoming season.
