The MLS is working on another expansion team and the league will award it to Las Vegas. Also, this expansion will make it the 30th MLS team.  The league has agreed to add Las Vegas to the league’s expansion plan but Las Vegas will not begin playing in the league for a few years to come.

Las Vegas announced that they will build a soccer stadium for their MLS expansion team.  The Las Vegas Major League Soccer team will be owned primarily by Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris. Both Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are the owners of the Aston Villa premier league team. Wes Edens also owns part of the Milwaukee Bucks NBA team.

“Expansion deals are complicated in any market, and certainly going to a place that requires a soccer-specific stadium, you have to be sure everything is aligned in the community, everything’s aligned with building a fan base, everything is aligned politically,” Garber said during a video conference call with reporters. “We’re making a lot of progress. We do hope to finalize something in the first third of the year.”

“Market size in the future of media will be less important than market engagement,” Garber said. “Where is the future growth and opportunity happening, and where do we think MLS can be successful?”
