Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou was impressed by his team’s output in their 4-1 loss to Chelsea on Monday, November 6, 2023.
The defeat to the Blues signified that Spurs had lost their unbeaten status in the 2023/24 season.
Tottenham Hotspur initially went ahead against Chelsea, with a brilliant goal scored by Dejan Kulusevski in the 6th minute.
Seven minutes later, Heung-Min Son doubled Ange Postecoglou’s side’s advantage, but his goal was chalked off for offside.
Chelsea also thought they had equalized twice before they got their leveling goal in the 35-minute from Cole Palmer, who converted from the spot.
Raheem Sterling’s goal in the 21st minute was disallowed as the ball struck the Englishman’s arm before he finished the job.
Moises Caicedo also scored a stunner in the 28th minute, but his goal was also ruled out for offside.
Spurs will be without the services of two players for the next few matches, as Cristian Romero and Iyenoma Udogie were shown red cards.
Nicolas Jackson scores first Premier League hat-trick
Nicolas Jackson scored the second for Chelsea in the 75th minute, before Tottenham Hotspur also thought they had got themselves back in through Eric Dier but the goal was also disallowed for offside.
It afterward became a Jackson show, as the Senegalese capped up a brilliant evening for himself by recording a hat-trick.
He took his league goals tally to 5 goals from 10 matches, and despite the Blues not being convincing all through the game, the scoreline was a bruising one for Spurs.
The Lilywhites sit 2nd on the Premier League table, with 26 points from 11 league matches.
They have won 8 matches, drawn 2, and lost 1 thus far, having a truly remarkable start to the season based on their form last season.
Ange Postecoglou on Tottenham Hotspur performance against Chelsea
Speaking on his side’s performance against Chelsea, Ange Postecoglou was full of praise for his players, saying:
“In terms of effort, will and determination it was outstanding by the lads – they gave everything they could”.
It remains to be seen how Tottenham Hotspur can bounce back from this defeat, with the inclusion of some players – Cristian Romero and Iyenoma Udogie, who will be absent from the coming matches due to suspension.
Spurs travel to the Molineux to play Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, November 11, 2023, in their next English Premier League encounter.
They have many times downplayed their push for the league crown, as they want to take one game at a time.
Their absence from continental competitions could also be a blessing in disguise, as they will be fully focused on the home front.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have only two major competitions to focus on currently, and that is; the English Premier League and FA Cup.
