Alexandre Lacazette has joined Lyon on a free transfer after his contract with Arsenal expired.
Lacazette is Lyon’s youth academy graduate who made 275 appearances and scored 129 goals during his first stay at the club, putting him in fourth place on the all-time goals scorers chart at the club.
In 2017, his efforts earned him a €60 million transfer to Arsenal, which was a record for Lyon at the time.
Lacazette helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in 2020 and was also a member of the team that lost to Chelsea in the 2018/19 Europa League final.
Even though he concluded the 2021/22 season strongly, it has long been known that the striker will not be offered a new Arsenal deal, as revealed earlier this year.
Lyon quickly established themselves as the frontrunners for his signature, and they have already completed a deal. His boyhood club has given him a contract that will keep him at the club until 2025.
Note that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed earlier this year that the club will try to re-sign Lacazette on a free transfer in the summer.
Alexandre Lacazette began his career at Lyon and went on to make 275 appearances for the French club, scoring 129 goals and providing 43 assists in the process.
In 2017, he went to Arsenal, where he has had some success, including winning the FA Cup in 2020.
Lacazette’s goal production has dwindled in recent years. He has only scored three Premier League goals this season, and his future has been in doubt for some time, with his current contract scheduled to expire at the end of the season.
Even though the player’s representatives approached the club last month, Arsenal failed to grant the Frenchman a new deal after the 2021/2022 Premier League season.
