Former Barcelona midfielder Alexander Hleb revealed the shocking reason Barcelona sold Ronaldinho and Deco in 2008.

Hleb claimed Barcelona sold those two legendary players in 2008 just to protect Lionel Messi as both players often turned up in training drunk.

Hleb revealed this while he was having a conversation with Voka TV in 2019. He said, “Ronaldinho and Deco came to training drunk. That’s why Ronaldinho and Deco were sold in 2008. Because they were afraid that they would bring down Lionel Messi.”

Deco and Ronaldinho were prominent players in the Barcelona squad before they were sold to Chelsea and AC Milan, respectively.

They won the La Liga title twice and also won the 2005–06 Champions League finals against Arsenal.

Deco scored 20 goals and created 45 assists in 161 appearances for the Catalonia, while Ronaldinho scored 94 goals and created 71 assists in 207 games.

Ronaldinho wore the famous No. 10 during his tenure at Barcelona. Lionel Messi inherited the jersey and proceeded to become one of the greatest academy players the club had ever produced over the years.

Lionel Messi left Barcelona as the club’s all-time highest goal scorer, with 672 goals in 778 appearances in all competitions.
