Adama Traoré of Wolverhampton Wanderers has arrived in Barcelona for a medical ahead of his return to the Spanish giants.

Tottenham Hotspur, a Premier League rival, sought to sign the winger earlier this month but were turned down for a fee of £15 million.

Spurs were reportedly looking to up their bid to £20 million before Barca took control.

The 26-year-old is likely to return to Camp Nou, where he spent nine seasons between 2004 and 2013 as a young player.

Reporters awaited the winger as he arrived at a Barcelona hospital today to complete his physical before joining the club on loan.

Traore had appeared in 20 games for Bruno Lage this season, scoring one goal.

Adama Traore’s loan move to Barcelona until the end of the season has been confirmed, as previously reported by FUTBALLNEWS. A buy option (which is not obligatory) for €30 million plus bonuses is included in the agreement between the clubs.

The Spanish Giants have agreed to cover 100% of the Spaniard’s wages until June 2022 as part of this loan.

Traore was first offered a loan contract with a £29 million option to make the move permanent by Barcelona, but speculation has it that Traore would want to return to the club where he began his career.

When his agency and club informed him, Adama Traore was formally on vacation with his family in Dubai, and he was waiting on the phone to return as quickly as possible.

Spurs were allegedly close to agreeing to a £20 million deal for the 26-year-old after their previous £15 million offer was turned down, but Barca appear to have gotten the better of Antonio Conte’s side in the race to get him.

Traore’s current contract expires in June 2023, and a new deal has been discussed for the past 15 months, with his current club anxious to keep him.

The loss of Adama Traore is a major setback for Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur, as the deal was thought to be almost done, and the club was desperate to add more players.

Traore has spent the previous six and a half years in England, where he has settled extremely well, but Catalonia has always been home.

Adama Traore has 140 Premier League games, scoring eight goals and assisting 14 times.

At the age of eight, he joined Barcelona’s development system and made his La Liga debut at the age of seventeen.

He seemed to be on his way to obtaining that opportunity at the moment. Tottenham’s search for a new manager is still ongoing.
