The newly-promoted German club, Schalke 04 have announced that they have decided to extend the loan agreement of Dong-gyeong until 2022.

They have also exercised the option to sign him permanently from Ulsan Hyundai. He has been with Ulsan Hyundai since he was a youth. He graduated from their academy and was loaned to F.C Anyang in July 2018.

If Schalke 04 decides to sign him permanently, they would have to cough up a fee of €1m after they activated the promotion clause in his contract.

The 24-year-old South Korean attacking midfielder joined the Royal Blues in the January transfer window but suffered a severe fracture to his metatarsal, which kept him on the sidelines for the rest of the football season.

Schalke 04 sporting director said ” When we first signed him, we are absolutely convinced in Dong-gyeong’s abilities. Having had a setback last season with a broken metatarsal, we’re sure that he’ll be able to show what a brilliant technical player he is from the start of next season.’

“He can play in a wide range of roles and will give us some new attacking impetus in the Bundesliga. We’re delighted that he’ll be staying with us.”

He helped Schalke 04 to win German’s second-tier league which ensured the club’s promotion back to the Bundesliga. He currently has a transfer market value of €900,000.

It was reported also that Schalke 04 player, Timo Becker has joined Holstein Kiel on a three-year deal contract.

A few hours ago, Schalke also announced the signing of Tom Krauß on a season loan deal from Nurnberg.

If Schalke 04 avoid relegation next season, they will have an option to sign him permanently on a three-year deal.

We’re delighted to have secured the services of Tom Krauß, one of the best German talents in his age group. He’s a tough-tackling central midfielder with an eye for a pass, has a good vision for the game, and brings a bit of aggression in one-on-one situations,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

“Alongside that, he also has fantastic running stamina and a great turn of speed for someone in his position. Both of those things help him create some dangerous moments in the final third.”

Schalke 04 head coach Frank Kramer has previously worked with Tom before and he is delighted to work with him next season.

Schalke 04 are now trying to chase other options as they want to strengthen their squad ahead of next season in the Bundesliga.
