PSG And Bayern Munich Are The Highest Goal Scorers In The Group Stage Of The UEFA Champions League

French Champions Paris Saint Germain are the highest goal-scorers in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, with a tally of 25 goals in the 2017-2018 edition of the tournament. The trophy has eluded the star-studded side, but they have not failed to qualify from the group stages in recent years.

UEFA Champions League – the most glamorous clubs competition in Europe, returns in earnest, with the group stage draws set. The opening matches are always a rain of goals as clubs battle to read the tactics and approach of teams from other European Leagues.

After the 2017/2018 Champions League season, PSG has established themselves as the unrivaled top-scorers in the group stage of the competition after amassing an unprecedented 25 goals over a spread of 6 matches. The average goal per game for the Parisians stood at 4.2 – an absolutely incredible feat.

Bayern Munich six times winners

German Champions and six times winners of the competition Bayern Munich are second on the log with 24 goals scored in the 2019/2020 season. Bayern Munich was ceded alongside Tottenham,  Olympiacos, and Crvena Zvezda. They won all their six matches and garnered maximum 18 points with a record of 24 goals in the competition.

Liverpool emerged as the third-highest goal-scorers in the competition after banging 23 goals in the 2017/2018 season. The English giants were the defending Champions after winning the competition in 2016. They did not lose a match in the group stages. They won three games scoring a record of 23 goals. They amassed 12 points after 6 games and were ceded alongside Sevilla, who came second with 9 points, Spartak Moscow with 6 points, and NK Maribor bottom with 3 points.

Bayern Munich were the top scorers again in the 2021-2022 Champions League group stages with 22 goals. They were ceded alongside Benfica, Barcelona, and Dynamo Kyiv. The Bavarians again amassed maximum 18 points winning all their matches, and scoring a total of 22 goals. Benfica came second, followed by Barcelona and Dynamo Kyiv at the bottom of the group.

Borussia Dortmund occupies the 5th position on the chart of clubs with the highest number of goals in the Champions League group stages with 21 goals. The German giants were ceded along Real Madrid, Legia Warsaw, and Sporting CP. They topped the group with 14 points after winning four matches and drawing two. Real Madrid was second with 12 points, followed by Legia Warsaw and Sporting CP, who got 4 and 3 points respectively.

Barcelona (2011/2012 and 2016/2017), Real Madrid (2013/2014), and Manchester United (1998/1999) all have 20 goals in the competiton.

The draws for the group stages of the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League have been fixed with matches set to commence on September 6, 2022.
