Cavani has been a good addition for Thomas Tuchel’s side since his arrival from Napoli in 2013, scoring 198 goals in 290 matches, winning five league titles, four French Cups and five French League Cups. But he has struggled this season for playing time, scoring five goals in 13 appearances for PSG.

He has also started just four league matches and played a small role in the group stage of the Champions League. Cavani has also had his fair share of injuries and had to compete for a place in attack with Mauro Icardi who is on loan from Inter Milan.

The 32-year-old forward’s injuries have not prevented Atletico Madrid from expressing an interest in the Uruguay international. Diego Simone’s side is in need of attacking reinforcements following the injury to Diego Costa in November. The former Chelsea striker was ruled out for up to three months after having an operation on a back problem. It was learned that the PSG forward rejected a move to MLS club Inter Miami in favour of remaining in European football.

And, according to El Chiringuito, Arsenal and United have submitted offers for Cavani and the striker is considering the offers with his contract set to expire in the summer. PSG are keen to sell Cavani during the January transfer window rather than allow him to leave for nothing.

The news medium also reports that Atletico are in pole position to sign Cavani and talks have already been held with PSG’s sporting director Leonardo. They also say that Cavani’s preference is to play for Diego Simeone in Madrid if he is to leave Paris.

However, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that he wants to keep hold of Cavani until the end of the season.

Tuchel said: “It has been difficult for Edinson after picking up an injury. That meant he lost rhythm, whilst other players were in good form in his position.

“But whilst he is here he must continue to prepare in the best way possible.

“I trust that he will stay with is, and I do not imagine anything else happening.”
