A challenge on Anthony Gordon was not penalized by referee Stuart Attwell.

If the challenge had been made on a Liverpool player, Lampard believes a penalty would have been awarded.

His statements are said to be “improper behavior” since they “imply prejudice and/or challenge the match referee’s integrity.”

He has till Monday to react to the charges leveled against him.

Everton sits in 18th place in the Premier League, two points from safety, and have a game in hand on their opponents.

Following the Merseyside derby, the Toffees contacted the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to inquire as to why Gordon’s challenge was not investigated further.

Following a challenge by Liverpool’s Joel Matip, forward Gordon tumbled over in the area with the game still goalless.

Andy Robertson scored Liverpool’s first goal eight minutes after the incident, and Divock Origi sealed the 2-0 victory.

“It was a penalty,” Lampard said. “You don’t get penalties at Anfield.”

“I believe [the referee] delivers that if it was Mohamed Salah at the Kop end. Anthony was called for a foul.”

Lampard was later asked to explain his remarks by the FA, who opted to charge him with bringing the game into disrepute.

“Frank Lampard has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in regard to post-match media statements made following Everton FC’s Premier League encounter against Liverpool FC on Sunday, April 24, 2022,” the FA said in a statement.

“It is alleged that the manager’s comments are unlawful because they indicate prejudice, challenge the integrity of the match referee – or referees in general – and/or bring the game into disrepute, all of which are in violation of FA Rule E3.1.”

“Frank Lampard will have until Monday, May 9th, 2022 to respond.”

According to reports, Gordon’s social media post, which included a video of the incident and two hand-over-face emoticons, was also reviewed by the sport’s governing body.

However, there has been no more action taken.
