After the Red Devils’ 10th Premier League defeat of the season, the Portuguese full-back provided an honest appraisal of his team.

United lost their 10th Premier League match of the 2021-22 season to Arsenal, with goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka, and Granit Xhaka canceling out Cristiano Ronaldo’s effort for the visitors.

On a tough day for the Red Devils, Diogo Dalot hit the crossbar twice and provided an honest assessment of the team’s present level after the game.

What did Dalot have to say following Arsenal’s defeat?

“I believe it is a lesson in honesty. Some could argue it’s just terrible luck, while others might claim it’s because we’re not playing well. I completely understand the fans’ dissatisfaction after traveling such a long distance to witness the game “MUTV spoke with the Portuguese full-back.

“It’s difficult to applaud them at the end for what they accomplished throughout the 90 minutes, but I believe this is a lesson for everyone.

“We need to mature as a team and be more energetic, wanting it more than they do and dominating, and I believe it starts with our daily efforts.

“You don’t just expect things will fall into place on a Saturday afternoon when you play for Man United; you have to do things right, and that’s the standard I’ve learned since I’ve been here.”

Dalot isn’t ready to give up the Champions League just yet

United are now six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, despite having played one more game, and are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League unless they can win all four of their remaining games.

Ralf Rangnick’s team would still be counting on their opponents to make a mistake, but Dalot is reluctant to give up on a top-four finish and has urged his teammates to fight to the end.

“It’s difficult for us to accept,” he continued, “since this club belongs in the Champions League.”

“All I want to say is that if it’s mathematically conceivable, I’ll believe it until the end. Obviously, it will be really difficult, and we must be realistic; everyone knows that in football, anything can happen at any time.

“At the very least, we have to feel that we can use that as a source of strength and drive in the following games.

“We have to fight for ourselves, the club, our families, and the supporters who come out every time.”
