Erik ten Hag claimed that having a say in transactions was a key “condition” for him to accept the Manchester United position. Ten Hag will take over as manager of the Red Devils at the end of the season, the Red Devils announced on Thursday.

With five games remaining, he is looking for his third Eredivisie title with Ajax, who are four points ahead of PSV.

Man United chose the 52-year-old Dutchman over former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino for the Old Trafford post.

Much has already been made about Ten Hag’s first transfer window as manager, with many speculating on a massive squad overhaul.

During discussions, the window will have been mentioned. Ten Hag has stated that if his transfer requests were not met, he would not have accepted the post.

“I made requests in advance before I arrive,” he said in a news interview. If the club didn’t grant them, I will not accept the position. I am the one who is accountable, and I am the one who will be held accountable for the outcomes.

“I don’t want to be a dictator; I’ll cooperate, but having a say in transfers is a prerequisite for me.”

With me in command, I believe… I forced Ajax to behave in an Ajax-like manner. With the objective of always playing excellent and good. With beauty and adventure. There’s more of a winning mentality now.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s career is in jeopardy after just one season back at Old Trafford, everything is up in the air. In the 2012/13 season, the Portuguese scored 21 goals in 35 games across all competitions. Ten Hag dismissed suggestions that he would struggle to deal with a player of Ronaldo’s caliber.

“I believe I can [handle the big-name footballers], but I will be myself in that,” he concluded. I’m not going to change my mind. I’ll give them their duty, and whoever fails to complete it will hear from me, regardless of who it is.”
