Former Manchester City and FC Barcelona striker, Sergio Aguero have stressed that he would be in the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Recall that Sergio Aguero had to retire from football on December 15, 2021, after he was diagnosed with a heart-related problem. He developed the heart issue barely four months after he left Manchester City for FC Barcelona on a free transfer.
Unfortunately for the Argentine football icon, on October 30, 2021, he complained of chest pains and breathing issues while playing his 5th game for FC Barcelona. Due to the development, he was forced out of the league game against Alaves which ended in a 1-1 home draw.
Afterward, Aguero was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia which later on ended his football career abruptly.
Since the 33-year-old Argentine football icon retired from football, he has been very engaged in the media. Aguero has been talking to the media and narrating how he has been coping with his heart condition.
Recently, the Argentine footballer went all out to stand for his national teammate, Lionel Messi. He urged the critics of Messi to desist from criticizing him over his inconsistent run of form at Paris Saint Germain.
In the same period, Sergio Aguero revealed in an interview that his heart condition has made it so difficult for him to sprint. He went as far as saying that he sometimes feels like his heart is not working properly.
A couple of days after revealing how he has been coping with his heart condition, Sergio Aguero came out to reveal that he would be in the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup. He went on to reveal that he and the head coach of the Argentina national team, Lionel Scaloni would have a meeting over the plan to be in Qatar.
The meeting between Aguero and the head coach is expected to be used to define the role of the retired footballer in the FIFA World Cup. Ahead of the meeting, the Argentine football icon told Radio10 that he might be incorporated into the country’s coaching staff ahead of the tournament.
“I’m going to the World Cup in Qatar. We are going to have a meeting this week,’ Aguero told Radio10.
“I want to be there. The idea is for me to be incorporated into the coaching staff, I spoke with [manager Lionel] Scaloni and [president Claudio] Tapia.”
Aguero made his international debut with Argentina national team on September 2, 2006. Before he retired from football, the Argentina international played 101 games for the country and scored 41 goals.
His biggest achievement with the national team happened in 2021 when he and Lionel Messi helped Argentina to beat Brazil in the final of the Copa America.
Since he can not play on the pitch due to his heart condition, Aguero would not mind supporting Argentina’s national team from the bench as one of the assistant coaches of the country in the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
