Sunday 22nd of March is a day to remember for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as it loses two of its best legs in the field of play to the horrible hands of death that showed no mercy. Ifeanyi George is a bright Nigerian footballer playing professionally for Enugu Rangers, he reportedly died at the early hours of Sunday 22nd of March 2020 in an auto crash. It was reported that the assistant captain of the Enugu Rangers was involved in a motor accident earlier yesterday along Abudu on Benin-Agbor expressway after his car crashed into a parked truck while he was returning to Lagos.

Unfortunately, Ifeanyi George was not the only one present in the car when the accident happened, his fellow teammate Emmanuel Ogbu also died in that accident, too much of a tragedy for a team to bear.

The 26-year-old assistant Enugu Rangers skipper, ifeanyi George joined the team in 2017 and scored his debut goal against Kano Pillars in the top flight of the Nigerian football league in 2017.

Ifeanyi George made his international appearance for Nigeria against the Benin Republic during the African Cup Championship where Nigeria ended as a runner up in the competition

In a spirit of correctness, the Nigeria Football Federation took to their social media handle to mourn the death of the two players calling it a big loss to the Nigerian football scene. The NFF wished the families of the deceased a fortitude to bear the loss, in a tweet that reads: “We are shocked to hear of the sad passing of striker Ifeanyi George and Emmanuel Ogbu players of Enugu Rangers.”

“Both players were involved in a fatal auto crash earlier on Sunday. Our prayers and thoughts are with their families and Rangers’ management. May their souls rest in Peace.”

Meanwhile, it is worthy to know that the Nigerian League has been suspended following the outbreak of the novel COVID-19 that is currently rampaging the entire world.
