Premier League club, Brentford has offered Denmark international, Christian Eriksen, a six-month contract which will give him the opportunity of returning to professional football for the first time in seven months.
Afterward, it was confirmed that Eriksen who was contracted to Inter Milan then, suffered a cardiac arrest during the European Championship game.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder had to undergo surgery through which a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device was implanted in him. Unfortunately for him, it was illegal in Italy for athletes to have devices implanted in them, hence, Inter Milan had to terminate his contract on mutual grounds.
Since then, the 29-year-old attacking midfielder had to travel to southern Switzerland to resume training privately while he awaited a move to a new club.
When Christian Eriksen earned the medical permit to resume competitive football, he returned to his former Dutch club, Ajax earlier this year where he has been training for over a week.
Brentford decided to take advantage of the fact that the footballer was not contracted to any professional club to lure him back to the Premier League. The negotiation between Brentford and Eriksen started and was sealed while the footballer was still in the Netherlands.

In a video the Premier League club shared on Twitter to announce that Eriksen is their recruit, the Danish football star said: “I’m happy to announce that I’ve signed for Brentford football club. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully I’ll see you all very soon.”

Futballnews can confirm that it is not illegal for athletes to play with ICD in the Premier League. Hence, Christian Eriksen will become the first footballer to play with the device in the history of the league.
Fortunately for Eriksen, the Danish footballer will be coached at Brentford by Thomas Frank, his coach when he was playing for Denmark under-17 team.
Aside from rekindling his work relationship with Thomas after 13 years, he would play at the Premier League club alongside two of his international teammates – Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen.
After Eriksen sealed his deal with Brentford, the coach of the club said: “I am looking forward to working with Christian again. It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then.
“Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League. He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.
“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a world-class player to Brentford. He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own.
“He is fit but we will need to get him to match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.
“At his best, Christian can dictate games of football. He can find the right passes and is a goal threat. He also has very, very good set-piece delivery, both from corners and direct free kicks.
“He is a player you can find with the ball, and he will come up with a solution to the problem in front of him. Christian will also bring experience in top-level football to the club. I expect him to have an impact in the dressing room and at the training ground.”
