The games will be held between March 24 and March 29, with the first leg taking place in Ghana and the second leg in Nigeria.

The Super Eagles were one of ten African nations to participate in Saturday’s draw, which was assisted by African legends El Hadji Diouf of Senegal and Emmanuel Adebayor, a former Togo international of Nigerian heritage.

They will now hope to be one of the five teams to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which will be held in the Middle-East nation at the end of the year.

In what would be their sixth appearance at football’s grandest stage, the three-time African champions would also be aiming to equal an African record of four successive World Cup berths.

On October 7, 2021, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State, Nigeria’s players line up before the 2022 Qatar World Cup African qualifications group 3 football match between Nigeria and Central Africa Republic.

Ghana and Nigeria Head to Head

  • Games – 49
  • Ghana wins – 21
  • Nigeria wins – 10
  • Draws – 18

In what would be their sixth appearance at football’s grandest stage, the three-time African champions would also be aiming to equal an African record of four successive World Cup berths.

The Super Eagles qualified for the third round play-offs by finishing first in a second round group that included Cape Verde, Liberia, and the Central African Republic.

They have been to every FIFA World Cup but one since their debut in the 1994 tournament in the United States.

Ghana, on the other hand, advanced to the third round play-offs after finishing first in Group G, ahead of South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe.

The Black Stars will be hoping to make their fourth participation at football’s biggest tournament in Qatar after missing out on the 2014 World Cup in Russia.

Last time Ghana lost to Nigeria was at AFCON 2006.

Since then:

This is despite the fact that their performance at the African Football Confederation (AFCON) in Cameroon was a disaster.

There were also some doubts regarding their triumph over South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers’ second round.

Following Gernot Rohr’s sacking, the Super Eagles appear to be an entirely different team at the AFCON.

The Super Eagles have romped through the group stage with a perfect record under former Nigeria international Augustine Eguavoen, and are looking like serious AFCON contenders.

They’ve come a long way from the team that struggled to beat lesser opponents, with Cape Verde and the Central African Republic being two recent instances.
