Coronavirus is presently the most recent and deadliest epidemic the world has ever seen. The medical and research team tagged it COVID-19 because the disease is caused by a new virus called coronavirus. Some of its symptoms include cough, cold, sore throat, shortness of breath and many more, and it can cause death if it is not properly treated.
It was first reported in the city of Wuhan in China on December 31, 2019. At first, the rest of the world turned a blind eye to it because it only affected the city of China. Within three months, it became a world killer disease affecting over 120 countries and has killed more than 4,500 people.
Up until now, all effort to get a cure to the virus has proved abortive. However, there are some preventive measures to be taken that will save one from contracting the virus. While it may be easy to control in other areas of life, it will be very difficult to prevent in the world of football and other sporting activities. So many games have been played in an empty stadium due to the fear of the virus, still, that didn’t stop the spread of the virus.
Quite a number of football leagues in the world that have suspended their competition until further notice. Even the governing body for UEFA football sat yesterday to decide if the Euro 2020 will still hold as scheduled. It is becoming worrisome as many people fear that the coronavirus outbreak might be the end of world football if it is not properly controlled and done fast.
Meanwhile, there is no doubt that you and I don’t want that to happen now because of our love for the sport. Here in this article, we will be teaching how to protect yourself from the virus especially when you are attending a football match.
Avoid Handshakes
Be sure that you washed your hands thoroughly even before leaving your house. Wash your hands thoroughly with alcohol-based sanitizers or with soap and water. Avoiding shaking hands with people. It is better that you restrict yourself from shaking hands with random people, especially in the stadium. When you are excited keep the excitement to yourself and avoid shaking or hugging people in the stadium. The person sitting next to you might be infected, be careful and vigilant.
Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between you and anyone around you. Don’t be too close to the person. You would not know, the person might be carrying the virus and he/she coughs or sneezes, there is a small liquid droplet from their nose, you will inhale it directly if you are too close with the person. But when you are at least 1 meter away from the person, it prevents you from coming in contact with droplets coming from such a person.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Our hands are not static they move around, especially when someone is engrossed with the football match, the hand may pick the virus from any surface. Any touch to the eyes, nose or mouth can make the virus enter your body and cause sickness.
Practice respiratory hygiene
As much as other people can pose a threat to you, you can also pose a threat to others. Learn some basic respiratory hygiene like covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or handkerchief when you cough or sneeze.
Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider
The best way to prevent yourself from coming in contact with the virus is to follow the advice of healthcare providers which is staying indoor and avoiding places with so many people.
