Lionel Messi is back to full training after a lengthy battle with covid-19. He might feature in the Paris Saint Germain league game against Reims on Sunday, January 23, 2022.
The 34-year-old football icon has been out of football since December 22, 2021. His last game for PSG was against French Ligue 1 side Lorient. The league game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Afterward, it was confirmed that the record seven times Ballon d’Or winner contracted the dreaded coronavirus while on holiday in his native home, Argentina with his family. Hence, he had to stay back in the country a bit longer.
After the holiday, he returned to Paris, France to continue with his recovering process which seems to have yielded the expected result. Ahead of PSG’s league game against Reims, the club’s official Twitter page shared pictures and visuals of the footballer in training with the rest of his PSG teammates.
All things being equal, the 34-year-old Argentine football icon is expected to be among the players that would be lined up against Reims on Sunday.

Before now, Argentina’s national team have had to leave out Lionel Messi in their forthcoming World Cup qualification matches against Chile and Colombia.
The country decided to leave out their national team captain in the two encounters to give room for him to return to full fitness for his club and future engagements with the national team.
Recall that Argentina have already qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which means that the games against Chile and Colombia on January 28 and February 2 are inconsequential. Argentina would only try to win for bragging rights and to boost their FIFA ranking.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi is reportedly one of the most hated footballers in Germany right now thanks to his decision to snub Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich during the voting stage of the 2021 FIFA The Best Awards.
After the voting stage, it was revealed that Messi did not vote for Lewandowski, instead, he voted for his teammates at PSG, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe; Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema took his third slot.
Despite that, Lewandowski ended up winning the award ahead of Messi and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool. But the critic of the Argentine footballer are castigating him because he said Lewandowski deserved the 2021 Ballon d’Or and yet, he failed to vote for the 33-year-old Polish striker in the FIFA The Best Award.
As it stands, whatever people have to say against Messi would be of little or no concern to him. His focus now would be how to have a better debut season at PSG.
Since he joined the French Ligue 1 giants on a free transfer from FC Barcelona on August 10, 2021, the Argentine footballer has managed to score just a league goal in 11 league matches. He has however provided five assists in the league so far.
