The manager of Tottenham Hotspur, Antonio Conte said Christian Eriksen is welcome to train at the club while he waits to get another club.

Recall that the 29-year-old Denish attacking midfielder has not played competitive football since June 2021 when he collapsed on the pitch during a European Championship game involving Denmark and Finland.

Afterward, it was confirmed that he suffered a cardiac arrest. Hence, the former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder had to undergo surgery through which a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) device was implanted in him.

Unfortunately for Christian Eriksen, rules in Italy don’t allow athletes to play sports with devices in them. Hence, his then club, Inter Milan had to terminate his contract on mutual grounds.

Since then, the 29-year-old Denmark international who is hoping that he could represent his country in the forthcoming FIFA World Cup has been without a club. He is hoping that he would get another club this January.

Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur FA Cup third-round game against Morecambe scheduled to kick off at 15:00 on Sunday, January 9, coach Antonio Conte who signed Christian Eriksen from Tottenham on January 28, 2020, when he was the coach of Inter Milan, said he could not wait to see the Denish player in action again.

The coach said: “I didn’t speak recently with Christian. For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball.

“We are talking about a really important player, but especially a top man.

“What happened this summer was very not good – not good for the people that worked with him and the people that know him. I was scared at that moment.

“And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian the door is always open.”

Christian Eriksen started his professional football career at Ajax in 2010. After three years at the Dutch club, he joined Tottenham Hotspur on August 30, 2013.

After seven years at the Premier League club, Eriksen decided to join Conte at Inter Milan. At the end of the 2020-2021 season, Conte left the Denish attacking midfielder at the Italian club.

Unfortunately for Christian Eriksen, he could not feature in Inter Milan squad ahead of the 2021-2022 season due to the ICD implanted in him after suffering a cardiac arrest in June. At the time of publishing this report, he was not contracted to any club.

Meanwhile, coach Antonio Conte who recently led Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tie, said Tottenham Hotspur have to understand his vision for the club which is to take the Premier League club back to prominence.

The Italian coach said: “I signed a contract for this season and next season. I think that we decided together, the club and I, to go for this decision.

“I think that I don’t need a long contract to be sure to work for a club. I think that the club has to appreciate my job and then extend my contract, but only if I showed the club I deserve this.

“I’m open to improving the Tottenham situation and I decided to sign a contract with this club and I’m available to give my opinion, to give my vision and it won’t be a problem for me, a short contract – only one year to go. It’s OK because Tottenham has to be sure 120 percent to continue to work with me.

“I’m happy to work with this group because they are giving me great availability. But at the same time, you know the club has to know my vision, has to know my opinion about the situation and especially what is our ambition.”
