Former Liverpool Fc forward, Daniel Sturbridge has been ban from any football-related activity in Europe till June 17 after the football star was found guilty of breaking gambling rules by the governing body of English football (FA) on Monday.

The English man became a free agent on Monday after he and his Turkish club Trabzonspor agreed to terminate his contract. Meanwhile, he had been charged with sometimes in July for alleged breach of betting rules. Sturridge was alleged to have revealed his potential transfer news from Liverpool to a friend in 2018. This was used by those he revealed the news to for betting-related activities which are contrary to the laws that guide English football.

However, the 30-year-old footballer was lucky to have the support of FA back then. The allegations were appealed by the FA on the grounds that the Independent Appeal Board discovered that the Regulatory Commission might have incorrectly applied the FA rules related to the use of inside information and findings of fact which can not be proved.

According to the statement released by FA

“The Appeal Board agreed with the FA that the penalty originally imposed on Mr. Sturridge was unduly lenient and therefore increased his effective playing ban from two weeks to four months”

Also, Daniel Sturridge’s fine was increased to £150,000/$191,400. The English football governing body also explained that the suspension and fine have been approved by FIFA and it will be effected worldwide.

Whereas, Daniel Sturridge disclosed that the decision of the governing body was a disappointing and upsetting one. He explained through a video on his YouTube channel that he will continue to campaign for professional footballers to be able to speak to their families and close friends freely without any restrictions.

Quoting the words of Sturridge,

“I’m going to continue to campaign for professional footballers to be able to speak to their families and close friends freely, without the real risk of being charged.

“I feel the betting companies and the practice and process of people placing bets on players moving clubs has to be stopped.”

It is worthy to know that Sturridge’s suspension and fine may cause him to land in the United States America as a player for MLS. The USA club has been on the lookout for the Englishman for a while now, this might just be their chance to sign him.
