The manager of Liverpool football club, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that most of the players at the club have been vaccinated against the dreaded coronavirus.
The German tactician also confirmed that he, as the head coach of the club, has been fully vaccinated against the virus.
Jurgen Klopp made this confirmation ahead of Manchester City’s visit to the Anfield stadium. The two teams are meeting to play their 7th Premier League game of the season. The match is expected to kick off at 16:30 later today, October 3, 2021.
During the pre-match press conference, the press dragged Jurgen Klopp into the debate on vaccination. The German coach said most of his players accepted the offer to be vaccinated without duress.
He insisted that he accepted the vaccine because he was concerned about his wellbeing and that of the people around him.
Recall that since medical experts came up with vaccines to prevent people from contracting the coronavirus, most people across the world have been very skeptical about taking the vaccine.
There are unconfirmed concerns that there are life-threatening side effects and other conspiracy theories attached to the vaccines. Hence, some Premier League players, just like other residents in the United Kingdom, don’t want to accept the vaccine.
Recently, the Premier League came up with a policy that permits players who are from countries in the UK’s red list to visit their countries as far as they are fully vaccinated. This is seen as a step to encourage more players to accept the vaccine.
However, reports claimed that almost half of the players playing in the Premier League have refused to accept the vaccine.
Recently, the league body made it known that “Only seven clubs’ squads are more than 50% fully vaccinated, so we have a way to go.”
Jurgen Klopp said he does not understand why being vaccinated against coronavirus “is a limitation of freedom. “Because if it is, then not being allowed to drink and drive is a limitation of freedom as well – but we accept that”, he added.
“I got the vaccination because I was concerned about myself but even more so for everyone else around me.
“If I get it and suffer – my fault. If I get it and spread it around to everyone else – my fault and not their fault.”
On the rate at which Liverpool players accepted the vaccination, Klopp said: “I think we can say we have 99% vaccinated. I didn’t have to convince the players, it was more a natural decision from the team.
“I can’t remember really talking to a player and convincing him why he should because I’m not a doctor.
“What I would give, like in a lot of other situations, would be my advice – but it was not necessary.”
Jurgen Klopp and his boys are expected to beat Pep Guardiola and his boys later today to grab the first spot on the Premier League table. Liverpool are currently sitting on the second spot with 14 points in 6 games, a game less than first-placed Chelsea. While Manchester City are occupying the 6th spot with 13 points in 6 games.
