New reports coming out of Italy suggest AC Milan has a list of five potential managers who they think could take over for the post-Stefano Pioli era. The list is said to be an insurance plan in case the Italian coach fail to secure Champions League qualification with five games left in the season.

AC Milan currently occupies the ninth spot on the Serie A table with 35 points, and are 10 points adrift fourth place Atalanta. Saturday’s match against Fiorentina will be very crucial as they will need to win all five of their remaining matches to come close to qualifying for Champions League. Though sources close to the club say it has nothing to do with Pioli or qualifying for Champions League as the Italian has done an admirable job. The club source believes it’s more so as an option for the current transition period.

In the past couple of weeks, Milan has been linked with a number of managers. Two names, however, have stood out, Ralf Rangnick and Massimiliano Allegri. Rangnick has managed several clubs with the German enjoying spells at several Bundesliga clubs like Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Schalke, Stuttgart, and Hannover. While former Italian footballer Allegri is best known for managing Juventus from 2014-2019. Though two splendid choices, Milan is said to be skeptical as investing in the two managers would be a big investment.

Other options include Serie A veterans who are known to transform teams and take their team to the next level without Milan investing significantly in the managers. These managers include Simone Inzaghi from Lazio and Luciano Spalletti who previously worked at Inter Milan. The last option to take over though not a favorite on the lost is Marcelino, who formerly managed Valencia before being sacked. Marcelino is somewhat of a wild card given he lacks experience in Serie A. There is also the factor of Valencia’s poor form under his management.

AC Milan has several crucial matches coming up with one of their biggest match coming up on March 4 against Juve. This will be their second leg match of their Coppa Italia semi-final with both clubs currently at 1-1.
