Wales winger, Gareth Bale would set aside the sympathy he has for Denmark’s midfielder Christian Eriksen and would ensure that his country gets the maximum three points against Denmark later today.

Wales and Denmark will clash later today, June 26, 2021, in the Euro 2020 round of 16. The match is scheduled to kick off at 17:00 at Amsterdam Arena in the Netherlands.

Denmark qualified for the round of 16 stage of the European Championship after an emotional group stage in which the team lost the services of their midfielder, Eriksen who suffered a cardiac arrest during the country’s opening game.

The health issue of Eriksen who collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s match against Finland attracted a lot of love to the team. Due to the health issue of the midfielder, most football fans in the world have made the team their first or second favorite in the tournament.

This has helped Denmark to become more confident against teams in the European Championship and the same energy might be poured against Wales later tonight.

But Gareth Bale is not concerned about the pressure the love fans have for Denmark as he insisted that Wales don’t have a problem that they are seen as underdogs in most of the games they have played so far.

Despite they were regarded as underdogs in all the games they played in the group stage, they were able to finish top of their group above a more renowned side like the Spain national team.

Gareth Bale who is the captain of Wales and the talisman of the team stressed that being tagged underdogs does not make any difference in a competitive game.

“That’s normal anyway,” Bale said. “We’re always the underdogs and used to that tag. It doesn’t make a difference to us…

“Obviously we understand the situation that happened with them and we’ve sent all our best wishes to Christian.

“What a great job the Denmark team did with that. But come game day tomorrow it will be just us and them on the pitch, and hopefully, we can put a great performance in and get the job done.”

Aside from emotion, Gareth Bale should be scared of Denmark

Though most people believe that the love the incident of Christian Eriksen attracted to Denmark has been driving the team in the tournament, they have been a thorn in the flesh of Wales in the history of football.

In the last two games Denmark played against Wales in 2018, the Danish side defeated Wales 2-0 and 2-1 on the two occasions.

“It’s another big challenge. We know Denmark are a very good team, very well organized and have some very good players”, Bale said.

“So they won’t be underestimated by us. We’ll be ready to go come kick-off and put in a big performance.”
