The manager of the Chelsea football club, Thomas Tuchel has noted that the victory over West Ham United on Saturday has helped the club to trust in themselves ahead of the Champions League game against Real Madrid.
On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, Chelsea would face Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final stage. Three days before their trip to Madrid for the Champions League game, Chelsea went to London Stadium to play against West Ham United.
The Premier League game was touted to be very important for the ongoing top-four race between West Ham United and Chelsea. Before the game, Chelsea and West Ham were having the same point. However, Chelsea occupies the 4th spot due to superior goals difference while West Ham occupies the 5th spot.
During the game, Chelsea’s new signing, Timo Werner gave Chelsea the needed lead in the 43rd minute, after utilizing a pass from English defender, Ben Chilwell. The goal was Timo Werner’s first goal for Chelsea since February.
Unfortunately for West Ham United that tried to get back into the game, the club suffered a huge setback on the 81st minute when the club’s Fabian Balbuena got red-carded.
At the end of the 90 minutes of football, Chelsea and West Ham United failed to score more goals as the Blues left the London Stadium with a 1-0 victory.
With the 1-0 victory over West Ham, Chelsea remain the occupant of the 4th spot with three points more than 5th placed West Ham and 4 points above 6th placed Liverpool.

After the Premier League game on Saturday, excited Thomas Tuchel, described Chelsea’s stay in the top four ahead of the club’s Champions League game against Real Madrid as something special. He went on to describe Real Madrid as the biggest club in the Champions League.
“It’s clearly something very special”, Thomas Tuchel said about Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over West Ham ahead off, CC?).., A, the Real Madrid game.
“They’re the biggest club in the last 10 years of the Champions League. To arrive with the confidence and the trust in ourselves that we can perform in these matches is a good feeling.”
On Timo Werner’s goal against West Ham United, Thomas Tuchel said: “He needs to keep scoring and catch the moment. He is quite often involved in our goals, even in the last weeks, by winning fouls in the penalty area or with assists like against Man City. But nothing helps more than a decisive goal.
“I am very happy because I felt he was strong from the start. He was very good with distributing the ball, dropping from the number nine position, and keeping the ball, he had good timing with his deep runs behind the line, and was involved in many chances and half-chances.
“So it was very nice that he could score. He could’ve had a second one for sure. After that, he lost a little bit of confidence and was a bit tired. So a good performance and I’m happy because it was a big win.”
