The outgoing vice-chairman of Manchester United, Ed Woodward, has been alleged to be involved in the initial planning of the failed European Super League.

The football administrator who will step down as the vice-chairman of Manchester United at the end of this year reportedly claimed that he was not aware of the genesis of the plan. It was also reported that he had to resign from Manchester United because he didn’t support the club’s decision to join the league.

Recall that Manchester United and other 5 Premier League clubs – Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur, joined other 6 top European clubs – Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus to form the Super League.

On Sunday, April 18, it was announced that the president of Real Madrid Florentino Perez was the chairman of the European Super League and the co-owner of Manchester United, Joel Glazer was said to be the vice-chairman of the planned league.

After intense pressure, all Premier League clubs stepped down from the plan. Then, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Inter Milan announced their withdrawal from the plan.

When the planned league failed, Joel Glazer issued a public apology to the supporters of Manchester United and the staff of the club, regretting the decision to sign the club up for the failed league.

However, Florentino insisted that the planned league has not failed but on stand-by, arguing that those clubs that withdrew from it are still interested in the planned league.

Meanwhile, after the collapse of the European Super League, Ed Woodward announced his resignation from Man United but didn’t state why he decided to leave his role at the Premier League club. It was however reported that he decided to leave the club in agitation against United’s involvement with the Super League.
